As I mentioned in my last post, things have been pretty chaotic around here. Lots of ups and downs, exams, studying new school struggles you name it I've probably encountered it in the last few weeks/months and sometimes it's easy to get caught up in all of it. I find myself forgetting to remember to put aside time to do the things that make me happy, me time is something I always look forward too. So today I'm doing something a little different and sharing seven things that make me happy, seven things that help me de-stress when life seems to be coming at me full speed!
1. Get Your Nails Done
I feel like I can conquer the world after manicure. A color that matches my mood, a massage and freshly painted nails is the best way to relax in my opinion. Looking to save money? Paint them yourself, you will feel just as satisfied and put together and the best part is you can do them in the comfort of your own home.
In the past year things have changed a lot for me, I have entered the single life, transferred colleges, lived in NYC in the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, moved off campus in the Bronx, juggled internships and school and everything in between. Most college students don't experience this in their whole college career let alone their first year. the thing that has gotten me through these up's and downs has been journaling. It's like talking to someone who can't talk back, having someone who will always hear you out. Writing down how I feel about the big and the little things the happy and the sad has been the biggest factor in keeping my sanity over the past year. Not only do I sit down and vent on the days i'm feeling a little down but I also document the days when I am proud of myself and feeling my best, it's something to look back on and a reason to keep moving forward. My journal is a place only for me a space I can always call my own and bring with me anywhere I need.
3. Treat Yo Self
This goes without saying, after a long week or a bad day treat yo self. Buy yourself something special you've been wanting for a while now, splurge on that new purse you want or whatever it might be. You deserve it. Maybe spending money isn't your idea of treat yo self. Eat that slice of pizza you have been wanting all week, or that pint of Ben & Jerry's you've been staring at in your freezer. either way if it makes you happy. Do it! You wont regret a little splurge if it puts a smile on your face and clears your mind.
So maybe this is a me thing, but when things start to get crazy something that keeps me sane is a clean space to relax in. If you're a typical woman, outfit changes can destroy a perfectly clean room. Am I right? By the end of the week sometimes even just the end of the day my mind is overwhelmed looking at my room which looks like a tornado has run through it. Take 30 min to rearrange things pick up tossed around clothes, spray some air freshener, light a candle and you will instantly feel less stress and a little more put together.
5. Get Dressed & Go Out
Im a sucker for a GNI (girls night in) but theres also something about a GNO that can brighten up my spirits after a rough week or day. Make yourself feel good, dress your best grab your girlfriends and go grab a drink or dinner at your favorite local restaurant. It doesn't have to be anything fancy but sometimes a night out with friends can easily take your mind of things and get you to relax. Not a one who like to go out to eat? Get dressed and invite your girlfriends over for a home cooked meal. You get all the fun of dinner with the girls and getting dressed up in the comfort of your own home. I enjoy both and find them to be laid back and a great way to destress with friends.
6. Netflix Marathon
Grab some popcorn order take out click on your favorite TV or movie series, put on a face mask and forget about everything else. Invite your best friend over if need be but don't forget this is your time to relax. There is no better way to debrief than a movie marathon and food!
Burn some calories and burn some steam! Hit the gym and put those feelings to good use by cranking some iron or hitting the pavement! A lot of times it takes some effort for me to get myself to the gym or out for a run when i'm feeling down on myself or have had a long week, but I most definitely feel much better and on top of the world after a solid work out. It's a great way to blow off steam and stay healthy.
De-stress & Love Yourself! You only have one life so make it a stress free and happy one!
